The congregation was founded in 1969 by Messrs John Creeper, John MacKenzie and Charles Yeo, coming at that time under the New Jersey Presbytery of the Bible Presbyterian Church. The Congregation, known as Magill Bible Presbyterian Church, adopted the Westminster Confession of Faith as its subordinate standard and has sought to maintain a testimony for the Reformed Faith. Various outreaches have developed during the years, such as the Reformation Book Centre which distributes Reformed Christian literature throughout Australia, a radio ministry called “Old Paths” (1983-98), a monthly publication, a local college affiliated with the Bible Presbyterian Church and a yearly Bible Conference, drawing people from as far away as New Zealand. Mainly through the instrumentality of the Bible Conferences, but also through reformed literature and study of the Scriptures, the congregation has moved in the direction of Reformed worship and practice.

Consequently the church approached the Free Church (Continuing) to be received as a congregation and this was granted in 2003, the congregation being placed under the supervision of the Home &Foreign Missions Committee. In the intervening period the minister, the Rev John MacKenzie, resigned and several of the outreaches are in abeyance. Having been served intermittently by ministers of the Free Church, Rev. James Frew accepted a call and was inducted in April 2007.
